Is Sylvia Brown Anti-Vegetarian
Posted June 15, 2006 A member of my family went to see self-proclaimed psychic Sylvia Brown last week and came back very upset. I guess Sylvia asked what was wrong with vegetarians and vegans, don't they know plants scream when we eat them and we need our protein. I wasn't at this show so I didn't hear it myself but with the large crowd that was there it may have stopped any aspiring vegetarians before they even started. 2006-06-16 04:37:55 GMTComments: 2 |Permanent Link
Farmland Runoff Causes Blue Baby Syndrome
Posted May 27th, 2006 Unsafe levels of nitrates were found in drinking water in Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio. A nitrate is an inorganic chemical made up of nitrogen and oxygen. Drinking water becomes contaminated with nitrates from runoff of agricultural fertilizers or with human or animal waste, such as livestock feedlots or faulty septic systems. In this case the nitrates were a result of farmland runoff. The levels found are harmful to infants only because their digestive tracts are inmature and cannot process the nitrates. Infants who ingest too many nitrates end up with methemoglobinemia, a dangerous blood condition that limits oxygen in the circulation. This can lead to serious illness and even death. The levels found do not pose a threat to older children or adults. Residents in the area for which Griggs Reservoir provides water, have been urged to not let babies drink the water and not to use it in infant formula. They must use bottled water instead. Boiling the reservoir water only makes the situation worse because it concentrates the nitrates. - Read full article 2006-05-28 02:36:47 GMTComments: 0 |Permanent Link
Vegans Less Likely to Give Birth to Twins
Posted May 22, 2006 According to a US researcher, vegan women may be less likely to become pregnant with twins. Obstetrician, Dr. Gary Steinman who specializes in multiple birth pregnancies thinks that these types of pregnancies may be a result of the hormones given to cattle to boost their milk and meat production. Steinman goes on to say that women who are thinking about getting pregnant may wish to eliminate dairy and meat as protein sources to avoid the complications that go along with multiple birth pregnancies. - Read the full article here 2006-05-28 02:35:24 GMTComments: 0 |Permanent Link
